PRESIDENT'S WELCOME MESSAGE
Welcome to the AFA Chapter 147 website. We're Brian Arnold and Pam Levine, Chairman of the Board and President of the AFA General Bernard A. Schriever Chapter 147 for 2008. We are glad that you found our website. We are working to make this site a useful and powerful support tool focused on meeting your local AFA information and activity needs. It is designed to provide current information on local chapter related events as well as a pathway to the AFA Home Page for a broader perspective of the overall organization's services and activities. Please let us know how we can improve our new site to better serve your information needs.
One main purpose of our website is to inform you of our annual events that provide broad local forums for Air Force, Aerospace Industry and LA South Bay community participation. These events include membership quarterly mixers with an SMC or other prominent guest speaker.
In April, in conjunction with other Professional Associations in the area, we help sponsor the annual SMC Industry Days Conference to showcase Air Force space program opportunities and related responsibilities of the Space and Missile Systems Center. We will hold this year's Sports Day on April 17 following the completion of Industry Days.
In June, we will sponsor ourannual Salute to SMC Awards Banquet and SMC Executive Forum . The banquet honors the most outstanding military and civilian performers at SMC in various categories including program management, scientist, engineering and leadership. The Executive Forum pulls together senior industry and government officials to discuss space and acquisition related issues. Check our newsletter or website periodically for this year's date and additional details.
In November each year, we serve as the co-host (with AFA National) for the Air Force Association LA Space Celebration Ball. This event includes a national or senior USAF speaker, a panel of renowned experts and executives and culminates in the presentation of the Thomas D. White Award given to an industry or government leader who has contributed significantly to supporting Air Force space mission and goals.
